Every pair of our fantastic Flip Flops has been on a journey. From plastic waste destroying our beautiful oceans and wildlife, to stylish, sustainable footwear enjoyed by Surfers and Beach-Lovers all over the world.
From Pollution to Solution - Let's make a difference
COLLECTING THE PLASTIC
We partner with ocean charities across the world who collect plastic from beaches and waterways. This plastic is sent to recycling plants and depots to be turned into P.E.T (polyethyleneterephthalate) chips or pellets.
We purchase this P.E.T and melt it down to create our unique Oceatex™ noodle carpet.
25 trillion macro & 51 trillion microplastics litter our oceans. Of that, 269,000 tonnes float on the surface.
THE NOODLE CARPET
The carpet is noodle because it allows us to recycle the flip flops more than once and give it a longer life span. When you melt plastic into a usual flip flop shape it can only be re-used once. The noodle texture also gives extra comfort with a cushioned sole.
According to the order placed, we select colours and sizing. The carpet is then dyed with natural colourants.
Between 4.8 and 12.7 million tonnes of plastic pieces are dumped into our oceans yearly.
THE REST OF THE FLIP FLOP
Recycled plastic is then put into molds to create the handle for each size of flip flop.
The soles are made of a combination of recycled plastic and natural fibres including bamboo and coconut.
Once all three components have been made, they are then brought together and assembled with water based glues.
The flip flops are then left to dry for 24 hours and tested before going into quality control.
One garbage truck of plastic is discarded into our oceans every minute.
Once quality control is complete, they are packed into recyclable cardboard cartons individually (boxes of 25) and shipped to the UK.
Once in the UK, they are distributed from our warehouse in Manchester. All our packaging is 100% recyclable and we work hard to keep our footprint low.
